Training
When a new horse comes to Matthew for training the first thing he does is to
confer with the owner and the previous trainer. Then
he works the horse in long lines quietly observing what
the horse does.
His main goal is to get the horse to relax and be comfortable
with its job. He says the main focus of his training
it to, "...set the horse up for success. Confidence
is important." He feels that the horse needs to
be confident with what it's learning, likewise for the
rider. Matthew is sympathetic to all of the horses he
handles. During every lesson, he lets the horse "come
down" and take a break, letting them relax and
stand for a moment, with a comforting pat for those
being worked under saddle.
